Iran is one of the most prestigious countries in natural resources with more than 55 billion tons and more than 64 types of minerals definite reserves.

Optimal use of mineral resources and reserves

One of the indicators of wealth production in societies is the maximum and optimal use of mineral resources and reserves; Advancing this important step will be a step towards further development of the country.

Protecting and preserving national wealth from natural and man-made hazards is another step in the development of a country’s roadmap. Therefore, this issue can be examined from two aspects: wealth creation and wealth preservation.

One of Iran’s great assets and national wealth is the existence of mineral reserves and resources, which according to Iran’s position in the industry and mining, this category can be one of the key elements in preparing the roadmap. Iran is located in the middle part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt, which starts from Eastern Europe and continues through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan to Tibet and near Burma and Indonesia.

Being located in this belt, which is the collision border of the two main supercontinents of the Earth and contains 15% of the world’s known reserves, has made Iran a  high capacity and potential in mineral power. evidence of this potential is more than 10 world-class active mines in Iran. For example, for iron deposits, we can mention 5 iron ore mines of Sangan, Chadormelo, Choghart, Golgohar, and Hormoz,  copper deposits of Sarcheshmeh and Songun, lead and zinc deposits of Mahdiabad and Angoran, and gold reserves including Zarshuran and Sariguni which all of them considered as large reserves in the world.

Iran, a mineral country

Iran is one of the countries with a comparative advantage due to its important mineral resources, as well as hydrocarbon resources, mining, and related industries, so that even some experts consider Iran more of a mineral country than an oil-rich one. This issue has increased the importance of development programs in the mining sector and mining industries.

Iran is located on one of the main mountain belts of the world. occurrence of geological activities causes the enrichment of valuable various minerals (including metallic, non-metallic minerals, and building materials).

104 billion tons Reserves in Iran

Iran is one of the most desirable regions in the world in terms of mineral potential, which contains 8.1% of the world’s known resources, ie 104 billion tons. More than 55 billion tons of these minable reserves (including 6% of copper resources, 3.5% of lead and zinc resources, 10.5% of coking coal and heat, and 2% of iron ore resources) are in the world in Iran.

Half of the 24 types of metallic minerals and 36 of the 50 types of non-metallic minerals in the world have been detected in Iran, also In terms of production, Iran owns 1.1% of copper, 1% of lead and zinc, 0.8% of iron, 1% of coal and 0.04% of world gold.

Examining the share of Iran’s non-metallic reserves in the world shows that it is possible to make principled and profitable investments in the field of mines and resources in Iran based on the available at least one percent share of Iran in world production and based on existing capacities.
